Edvard Munch was born on the 12th of December 1863 in Løten, Norway, the son of Dr Christian Munch and his wife Laura. He had three sisters Sophie, Laura and Inga and a brother called Andreas. But family life would prove to be very difficult for Edvard because in 1868 at the age of 5, Munch’s mother died of tuberculosis.
